L’Alcazar, going green, staying cool
A legendary cabaret that was a temple of celebration in Saint Germain des Prés for decades has been reinvented for today in the form of a distinctly chic restaurant. With stunning décor by the star interior designer Laura Gonzalez, the look is slick, with a slightly retro ambience overwhelmed by the greenery of a lush tropical garden, all the better to go green and find the cool in the midst of summer! Wood and rattan is covered with floral fabrics or velvet, tables have marble tops edged in brass. The wood floors and terrazzo tiles give a patio-like feel to the main room. Upstairs, you penetrate the foliage to approach the mezzanine bar. L’Alcazar is a feast for the eyes but also for the taste buds, with marinated beetroot, honey, hazelnuts and goat’s cheese, red label salmon tatami, smoked aubergine and ginger or traditional rice pudding with blueberry compote and brandy snaps.
