An event; Primitive Picasso at the Quai Branly Museum
You can discover a little known side of Pablo Picasso through this fascinating exhibition at the Musée du Quai Branly, which takes a chronologically arranged look at the Spanish artist’s documents, letters, photographs and other items to offer a totally new perspective on the fascination he had with the arts of Africa, Oceania, the Americas and Asia. This reveals Picasso's creative environment, the circles of dealers and collectors in which he moved, the exhibitions he visited and his own extensive collection of non-Western works. A second, more conceptual section of the exhibition offers a comparative examination of Picasso’s creativity and that of the ‘primitive’ art he favoured. It offers something of an anthropological approach to exceptional art and demonstrates a relationship born of admiration, respect and fear.
