André Derain is featured at the Centre Pompidou
With the aim of retracing the stages of André Derain’s pre-First World War career, when he participated in the most radical avant-garde movements, the Centre Pompidou is taking a fresh look at the work of this major 20th century artist. Gathered for the exhibition are some exceptional works, including his summer pieces painted in Collioure, his series of views of London and very large compositions around the themes of the dance and bathers. These resonate well with the artist’s previously unseen archives, including his collection of prints and reproductions of works of art, photographs, writings and correspondence, and serve to enlighten the visitor in a sensitive and unprecedented way.
