Astier de Villatte, an eclectic selection of authentic objects a few streets from the hotel Monge
Astier de Villatte, the only major studio in Paris today to make artisanal ceramics in the tradition of the remarkable creations of the 18th century, has opened its second shop on the Rue de Tournon right next to the famous café. The building chosen is in itself an affirmation of the magnificence and excellent taste of yesteryear. Recognisable for its gorgeously traditional shop front, evocative of those to be found on the Rue Saint Honoré, this former bookstore boasts carefully restored and finely painted wood panelling and patterns of antique tiles. Within, the ceramics are beautifully displayed on exquisite old shelves. You can also find stationery made by Pineider, a mark of quality in this field since the company began in a shop in Florence in 1774, a selection of old books on Paris, perfumes and colognes, balms and creams from the dispensary of Rafalias on the Greek island of Hydra, and even ointments with virtues without equal from the convent of Monte Carmelo in Loano, Liguria, Italy. Here, in this charming location, you can always find eclectic choices, cool items and exclusive products from magical faraway places, and it’s only a few streets away from the Hotel Monge.
