Les Deux Magots - the unmissable café in Saint Germain des Prés
This is the café synonymous with literary and artistic life in Saint Germain des Prés. Verlaine, Rimbaud, and Mallarmé used to meet in this liquor café in the neighborhood, whose name, Les Deux Magots, evokes the two Chinese figurines that still decorate the room today. Very quickly, this particularly popular address played an important role in Parisian cultural life and affirmed its literary vocation with the creation of the Prix des Deux Magots. Created in 1933 as a reaction to the Goncourt prize, which was considered too academic, it has since opened the French literary year. In all letters and in all freedom, this address makes live the myths beyond the legends in a decor of dream, often immortalized in the cinema. Enough to make a movie or write a new story during your stay at the Hotel Monge. J.R.
