Ocean Explorers at the Arab World Institute; your last chance to go to sea
Embark alongside the masters of the seas and the great navigators who discovered new maritime routes and embarked on voyages of discovery from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean.
Essentially an extraordinary travel narrative, this immersive exhibition tells of the richness of maritime trade from the beginnings of Islam to the early 17th century, an adventure involving African gold and Western silver, Greek coins and diamonds from Golconda, glass from Alexandria, Venice and Bohemia, and porcelain, silk and spices from China.
With guides such as Sindbad, the sailor of the Thousand and One Nights; Marco Polo, the illustrious Italian merchant and Vasco de Gama, the Portuguese navigator to take you to faraway lands, you can let yourself be carried away across the waves.
